Ruins in the Forest

Description

My entry into the felarya ruins contest. You can see it in much better detail if you download it.

Some adventures and explorers are taking in the sights of a lost civilization. The unmantained time of a thusand plus years, rotting away any wood and rusting away any metals. The only metal left is sealed away, embedid within the unshattered parts of windows, the glass itself turned wavy and unclear centuries ago. The mighty road riddled with cracks, the base of buildings littered with chunks of stone rubble. The aquiduct that once supplied a flowing river of water, is now collapsed, only a trickle flows down its path now. The elements carving out portions of the concrete pillars and stones, turning them ever slowly into small bits. Any well kept grass is well overgrown and taken back by nature. Saplings strouting ontop of toppled pillars and giant trees bursting through the roadways, the giant tree forest in the background looming over all that once was. Vines creeping up the delapidated building and weathered statue in the cirle. What was once a thriving center of a civilization is now just home to the wild. Bugs living in the grass, mushrooms on fallen logs, lizards basking in the sunlight, birds nesting where roofs once stood. Now thee only two peolpe who grace this place with their presence, are mearly just visitors, and not inhabitants like those who built this place so long ago.

Ok, well being I took this with my camera, and not a scanner, which means I got screwed over with my detail. The real thing looks way better than what I have here on the computer, as usual. All my individual little grass blades and lizard scales etc. look like shading.....Oh well. Perhaps I should get photoshop, that way I could go super SUPER crazy with detail (moreso then paper and pencil...it does have its limits) and people could see it! Oh yeah, and color it, yes color! Then you will have to watch out mwahaha!

Anyhow, please enjoy, and hopefully I will do well in the contest (first contest I've entered). Also for clarity since its all one color, the view is from slightly uphill, looking over a crest and at the rest of the ruins at a distance. Thats why everything is bigger up front and smaller at a distance. Example: Look at the cracked up road, pillars, people, and see the size difference.

Any and all comments appreciated, thanks.

Even though it's in black and white, the detail here is really fantastic. Good stuff.

Good luck with the contest! :D
